Our painted pieces include MDF for its extreme resistance to weather and humidity. This is not a cost-saving exercise.
Xavier Furniture also offers a wide range of sustainable-friendly rattan furniture.

Finishes
Our timber stains are finished with a Nitrocellulose clear coating.

- Polish your furniture regularly using a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth, rubbing the polish in the direction of the grain.
- Walnut Stain, Black Stain or Chocolate Stain pieces: we suggest Marveer polish or a wood polish from Howard Products Australia.
- Flax pieces: we do not suggest any cleaning products. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth.
- White pieces: we suggest a small amount of Mr Sheen Furniture Polish. For scuff marks, we suggest a light amount of Gumption on a soft clean cloth, lightly rubbed on the scuff mark.
- Wrought Iron pieces: we suggest applying the product Inox Lubricant 2–4 times per year depending on your environment and the elements.
- Natural Teak pieces: please refer to the Product Care on the Portofino product listings.
- We recommend using tablecloths and / or place mats for our tables to protect the surface.
- Avoid placing your furniture in direct sunlight.
- Artificial heating and cooling can cause movement in timber furniture. Avoid placing furniture adjacent to heating or cooling outlets.
- It is recommended that a vase of water is kept in the room to assist the timber furniture in retaining moisture.
- Avoid placing furniture directly under windows.
- Avoid placing plastic materials (lamp bases, ornaments, etc.) directly onto your furniture as certain plastics contain ingredients that may react with and damage the finish.
- A glass top is recommended as an additional layer of protection for glasses / lamps / decorative accessories / writing surfaces.
- Clean up spills quickly. Water left over a period of time may cause damage. Alcohol, perfume, nail polishes, aftershave and some medications may cause severe finish damage if not cleaned immediately.
