Bringing Coastal Elegance to Australian Homes with Gold Coast stockist, Hamptons Style

The elegant world of Hamptons Style interiors burst onto Australian shores over a decade ago, heavily influenced by American television shows featuring the calm, coastal beauty of Long Island’s beachside homes. It has grown to become one of the most popular design trends for homes across the nation.

With a keen eye for coastal charm and an impeccable taste for timeless design, the owner of homewares store, Hamptons Style, Donna Irvine, has been at the forefront of bringing Hamptons aesthetics to life for countless Australian clients.

Opening her Gold Coast store in 2013, Donna sought Xavier Furniture’s Hamptons ranges to create homes that infuse coastal sophistication with classic design.

In our Q&A Donna shares her insights on Hamptons style.

Q: Donna, can you describe what Hamptons style is and what defines it?

Hamptons style is about achieving an effortless blend of casual sophistication and coastal charm. Key elements include light, airy spaces using neutral colour palettes and high-quality, yet comfortable furnishings. Typically, we use crisp whites, soft blues, and sandy beiges paired with natural textures like rattan, linen, and wood to create that beachy aesthetic. It’s a style that captures a sense of relaxation and timeless elegance.

Q: What led you to open the store, Hamptons Style?

I’ve always been passionate about real estate and creating beautiful living spaces. I started my design journey 26 years ago, renovating and flipping homes. This eventually led me to study interior design.

I began Hamptons Style as an online store 13 years ago and eventually opened my first bricks and mortar store in Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast, so customers could see and feel the furniture in person. The Xavier Furniture Hamptons pieces were always popular with clients who were impressed by the design and quality.

It was very early in the Hamptons trend, and I enjoyed educating clients about the style, which is the perfect blend of relaxed, timeless, elegance.

Q: What advice do you have for clients looking to achieve Hamptons style in their homes?

Start with a neutral base for your walls and major furnishings. This creates a calming backdrop that allows other elements to shine. Incorporate natural materials like wood, stone, and linen, to bring in texture and warmth. Hamptons style is based on simplicity and functionality, and that’s why Xavier’s pieces work so well with this style. Whether it be their soft furnishings, beautifully crafted rattan pieces, or mahogany timber ranges, they blend perfectly with the neutral tones and add a calm beauty to the Hamptons aesthetic.

Q: What do you enjoy about working in interior design?

I’ve met some wonderful clients during my career, some of whom have become close friends. Being an interior designer is such an intimate role. People are inviting you into their homes and sharing details about how they want to feel when they wake up, come home from work, and how their family uses the home. It’s a privilege to be invited into their lives and see the joy once their decorated space is complete.

Q: What has your experience with Xavier Furniture been like?

I will be forever grateful to the Xavier team who’ve worked with me since I was running a small store. They guided and supported me when my career was starting and it’s been a wonderful experience working with them. What Wendy has achieved as the owner of Xavier, bringing the brand to what it is today, it’s impressive.

As a stockist for Xavier Furniture, I’ve seen how clients react to the stunning pieces. I’m always pleased to show them the ranges and the expert quality, meaning when clients purchase a piece, it will be with them for years.
