Are Interior Design ‘trends’ worth following? Creating timeless interiors

By Kylie Mann – Interior Designer at Palm Interiors

Palm Interiors directors Kylie Mann and Nyria King have been working together for 16 years, sharing a genuine passion for delivering beautiful, well-planned interiors.

If you browse interior design magazines, the words ‘on trend’ are bound to jump out at you a few times.

Design styles can change with the season and are often based on a generic look which doesn’t consider many important factors – such as the size of the space you are working with, how much natural light the area is exposed to and what the space will be used for.

That’s why as a rule, we don’t believe in following design trends, and encourage our clients to work with us to create a style that is both personal and practical, instead of taking the ‘cookie cutter’ approach.

Interior decorating is an art form with many layers, so it’s always important to ensure there is a plan for the whole space so everything ties together.

The key to achieving a unique, cohesive look is working with a team like Xavier Furniture, who can create beautiful, customised pieces to suit budget and lifestyle.

It’s fantastic to have the same furniture item available in different colours, stains and fabrics, so the options are endless. The same table could have a white finish for a Hamptons interior, or a black stain for a sleek, contemporary look.

The ability to change the size a piece of furniture, and to have control of the whole process from the building right through to delivery is not something that is offered everywhere, and because Xavier is based in Queensland the turn-around time is quite fast.

The advice we give to clients is to invest in good quality furniture which is designed to suit their needs and will stand the test of time, and if they want a fresh look in future, they can always update their accessories without changing the whole space.
